Wissenschaftliches Profil
The bass-baritone KREŠIMIR STRAŽANAC is one of Croatia’s most prominent artists. After studying in Stuttgart with Dunja Vejzović (voice) and Cornelis Witthoefft (art song), as well as privately with Jane Thorner-Mengedoht and Hanns-Friedrich Kunz, he spent seven seasons as a soloist at Zurich Opera House.
He is a prize-winner at the international Cantilena Competition (Bayreuth, Operetta and Opera category), the Bavarian Radio La voce Lieder Competition and the Hugo Wolf Competition in Wolf’s birthplace, Slovenj Gradec.
He has performed with orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Orchestre des Champs-Elysées, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, the Collegium Vocale Gent, the Collegium 1704 and the Concentus Musicus Wien, under conductors such as Giovanni Antonini, Herbert Blomstedt, Ivan Fischer, Bernard Haitink, Philippe Herreweghe, Václav Luks, Masaaki Suzuki, Emmanuelle Haïm and Franz Welser-Möst.
In 2023, Stražanac made his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic and Kirill Petrenko in concerts in Berlin, Madrid and Barcelona (the recording of the ‘Europa Concert’ from La Sagrada Familia was broadcast worldwide).
He has performed at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Frankfurt Opera, the Theater an der Wien and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, as well as at festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, the Menuhin Gstaad Festival, the Leipzig Bach Festival and the Montreal Bach Festival, and regularly gives recitals throughout Europe, Asia and Brazil.
In 2026, he made his debut with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Principal Conductor Nathalie Stutzmann, as well as with Klaus Mäkela, the designated Principal Conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, in his first performance of the St Matthew Passion at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. In 2027, he will make his debut in roles including Sir John Falstaff in Salieri’s opera Falstaff under the baton of René Jacobs, in Mozart’s Requiem under the baton of Ton Koopman, and in Brahms’s Requiem under the baton of Trevor Pinnock. He particularly enjoys singing lesser-known repertoire or world premieres; in the 2026/2027 season, he will perform in a world premiere at the KotorArt Festival and take on the bass part in Jörg Widmann’s “Friedenskantate” in Munich.
His performances have been recorded on more than 20 albums.
